Welcome Spring!

Ranger Heather accompanied the Friends of Tryon Creek staff and nature guides for a “first day of spring” birding trip to Sauvie Island, where they had the opportunity to view a great horned owl on her nest, a pair of red-tails building their nest, a large flock of snow geese (photograph below), sandhill cranes, golden-crowned sparrows and many other bird species.  Amphibians were almost as abundant as birds!  They were able to get a close look at a rough-skinned newt, long-tailed salamander, and several pacific chorus frogs.
